Why is CenturyLink filtering port 25?
CenturyLink filters port 25 to reduce the spread of email viruses and spam (unsolicited email). Filtering port 25 has become the industry standard to reduce the spread of email viruses and spam. These email viruses allow malicious software to control infected computers. These viruses direct the infected machines to send email viruses and spam through port 25.
Which CenturyLink customers does this affect?
Customers Affected: All business and residential customers who use a dynamic IP address and try to send email on port 25 (regardless of email provider) will be filtered.
Customers NOT Affected: All business and residential customers who use a static IP address have port 25 access. If you are NOT paying for a static IP address, then you are using a dynamic IP address.
Customers using their web browser (webmail) to access their email are NOT affected by port 25 filtering.

How do I order static IPs?
How to order static IPs:
- If your email address ends in @q.com, @centurylink.net:
- Order using the Static IP tool.
- If your email address ends in @qwest.net @qwestoffice.net:
- Order using the Account Manager.
How do I turn port 25 filtering on or off?
- If you have leased static IPs and your email address ends in @q.com, @centurylink.net:
- Login to the Static IP tool. Under Port 25 Filtering, and then follow the onscreen instructions.
- If you have leased static IPs and your email address ends in @qwest.net, @qwestoffice.net:
- Login* to Account Manager, select Port 25 Filtering and then follow the onscreen instructions.
*Your login ends in @qwest.net, and can be found in your modem user interface (GUI), then select modem status. If you need assistance, contact CenturyLink Technical Support or select the 'need help' button (located in the upper right hand corner of this page) to adjust your port 25 filter settings.
